Will it hold??
Posted on January 29, 2019 at 6:00 AM |
I had the pleasure of spending the morning with the beautiful Claire, on the 3rd November 2018, to style her hair before she walked down the aisle to say 'I do'
I met Claire for her trial on an extremely hot day in July, she wanted an elegant up-do and had plenty of pictures to show me so we knew exactly the look she wanted.
Claire mentioned that her hair does not hold well usually and when she was a bridesmaid recently everything fell out quite early in the day. The look she wanted was quite a loose relaxed style so I advised her to see how it went throughout the day, as we may need to make a few alterations.
Unfortunately within a couple of hours everything had started to fall out. Claire has thick super silky hair, its glossy and beautiful...but not ideal when it comes to styling. So she came back for a second trial, I knew the alterations that had to be made, I just wanted to be sure (for my piece of mind and the brides) that it would actually hold!
The second trial was a success! So what did I do differently??
Â
- The original style was very low on the neck, meaning there was not as much surface space to pin the chignon to. By taking the design higher on the head this gave us more of a surface area to work with. Especially as Claire was having a veil on her wedding day and wanted this below the bun
- From the crown back wards, over the entire head, from root to 3 inches down I texturised the hair using a very small crimper (so 1980's but it really works), followed by a little back combing and spray this gave substance for the grips to cling to
- As always, hair pins and grips are weaved into the hair for added staying power. Hair pins are bent at the ends to create a hook to hold them in place
- A loose style was not going to last on Claire for the day so it had to be slightly tighter and have structure
- Finally...spray, spray and more spray. Every section of hair was spritzed on the underside before securing place with grips and pins, and spraying again!!
